Timer

Last update: 05-Feb-2009 08:01 PM

A timer is included with your system to assure you of hot water during times of poor weather and or heavy usage such as guests or extra laundry. We recommend setting the trippers on your timer at hours of potentially heavy usage, such as 5:00 am to 6:30 am and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The tank will reheat in approximately 1 ½ hours with the element, so your may vary the suggested time to fit your individual lifestyle.

Never set the timer to come on automatically during daylight hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm), as this prevents the solar system from doing its job, namely, heating up the water from the sun. This causes extra electrical usage which is what you are trying to avoid.

Even though the timer is set to turn element on in the morning or evening, NO ELECTRICITY will be used is the tank has been heated to the prescribed temperature by the solar collectors. The timer is on a separate electrical circuit and is not connected to the solar heating portion of your system.

In the event of a power failure, be sure to reset the timer (just like any clock).

There is a manual switch level on the timer which can be used any time extra heat is necessary. We’ve found that by combining the timer with your solar system, you will receive the maximum benefits by allowing the solar system to heat water during the sunny portion of the day (9:00 am to 5:00 pm) without the electric element in use.
